Waar gaat Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters over?
Pestkoppen richten zich vaak op iemand die zwak is – iemand die precies op Yûgi Muto lijkt. Hij koestert zijn Millenniumpuzzel, een oud Egyptisch artefact dat naar de spelwinkel van zijn grootvader werd gebracht. In de overtuiging dat het oplossen van de puzzel hem zijn wens zal vervullen, voltooit hij de puzzel en laat hij een nieuwe persoonlijkheid in hem los, de ziel van de 'King of Games'. De nieuwe persoonlijkheid genaamd Yami Yûgi is precies het tegenovergestelde van Yûgi. Bij enig onrecht jegens hem neemt Yami Yûgi het lichaam van Yûgi over en dwingt de tegenstander tot een 'Schaduwspel'.
